Krav Maga at Tip of Spear

Tip of Spear is the only facility in Alberta that offers civilian self-defense training using the most effective method available: IKMF Krav Maga.  This program develops proven personal protection, numerous life skills such as confidence and self-awareness, and physical fitness.  It is open to the public, ages 13 (parental consent required) and up. 

 

Here is everything you need to know about training with us at Tip of Spear. One question we often get is whether or not someone is good enough, fit enough, or has enough experience to start. Our answer is always: wherever you are at is perfect. All students are encouraged to work at their pace, while continually challenging themselves. Students will never be forced to do something they don't feel comfortable doing. We are here to learn, grow and get better, in our fitness, skills, awareness and confidence!

Types of Classes Offered

 

Beginner and Advanced Classes (P1 to G1)

This class is split into two groups: one section for people who are first starting out with IKMF Krav Maga, and those who have passed their advanced levels.

Whether you have done little to none before, or have done other martial arts or sports, all students are welcome to start in the beginner class. It is open to the public, ages 13 and up (parental consent required for minors).

Strength and Conditioning for Krav Maga

In this class, we work on developing and improving the physical, psychological and performance adaptations that are consistent to the needs of fighters alike. This class is tailored a bit more to Krav Maga specific stresses and follows a structured, systematic, and progressive style of integrated training.  We work on increasing a student’s cardio levels and fight endurance by fluctuating the body between aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. Aggression pieces to help push through those little bits of nagging exhaustion and harden the mind. Metabolic circuits to help cut down body fat and build muscle. Speed, agility, and quickness drills to help improve on acceleration, deceleration and dynamic stability while moving and fighting. As well as some power drills that focuses on both high force and velocity, basically your speed and power behind your punching and kicking. All in all we train and condition people to be overall better fighters.

Private Classes

We also offer private classes for those who want extra special one-on-one teaching. Classes start at $80 per hour and would be scheduled at a time that works for both the student and the instructor. For more information, please contact us

Plans and Pricing

 

To check out our plans and pricing, and to purchase one, please go to Plans and Pricing. Please note that due to COVID-19, we are only permitting 18 students at a time, so our plans will sell out fast! Once they sell out, you can be added to a waiting list.

Required Gear

 

To make sure all of our students stay safe and protected, we require them to have the following equipment to use during class:

  • mouth guard

  • MMA gloves (preferred over boxing gloves)

  • groin protection (for men and women)

  • shin guards

  • clean indoor running shoes

  • Tip of Spear Krav Maga t-shirt and black track pants or shorts (this is part of the uniform). See below for more info on how to purchase.

We also recommend that students bring:

  • a water bottle

  • a towel

Once you purchase your pass, and set up an account on our website, you will have access to the Members Only page in the menu. Once logged in, this is where you purchase your Tip of Spear t-shirt. You can pick it up when you arrive to your first class.

Attending your First Classes

 

Your first class is always free to try! Please Contact Us​ if you wish to try it out so we can arrange a class for you to attend. No special gear is required for your first class other than clean indoor running shoes and workout clothes.

 

If you wish to continue with us, purchase a plan online. Then come to Tip of Spear 15-20 minutes before the class you wish to attend. You will be asked to sign in so we have record that you attended that day (for COVID-19 purposes). Introduce yourself to our instructors: Dave and Dave. Then learn lots and HAVE FUN!

COVID-19 Considerations

 

Here at Tip of Spear, we are all about your safety. As such, we take the current COVID-19 pandemic very seriously. We have introduced the following measures to keep all of our students as safe and healthy as possible:

  • Social distancing in the gymnasium while doing training and have limited the number of students to 18 to ensure 6 foot spacing. Partner work will be extremely limited an only for those who feel comfortable.

  • Limiting the number of students to 18, to reduce exposure down to as few people as possible. If any concern does arise, the 18 students will be notified and class will be paused until the concern passes.

  • Screening daily upon entry into the building, including illness-related questions and temperature.

  • All students will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the building to comply with Edmonton by-laws.

  • All equipment will be sanitized after each class, and students will have the ability to sanitize any equipment they would like to themselves.
