Employer Programs

We have developed several programs for employers to assist them with training and hiring security staff. We have put together train-and-interview and train-and-place programs in partnership with employment support organizations to make your job as the hiring employer a little easier.

These programs are win-win-win:

  • Employers get access to pre-screened quality candidates who are already trained to a high degree

  • Individuals get free training and employment support

  • Agencies meet their mandate to serve their community and help individuals become self-sufficient working members of society

Action for Healthy Communities

Licensed Security Guard Workforce Participation Program
Action for Healthy Communities' Licensed Security Guard Workforce Participation Program provides training and support to new Canadians interested in beginning a career in security, and matches them with organizations who want high quality, custom trained candidates to interview and hire.

What’s in it for employer partners?

  • Access to subsidized wages for youth (youth defined as 18-30 in this context)

  • Access to pre-screened, well trained, motivated workforce, available to be interviewed for your company

  • Tailored and targeted training to address specific gaps or issues in new hires for your organization, before individuals are hired.

  • Participation in a social procurement of labour model – an emerging trend in construction that we anticipate will transfer into other sectors

Training and support for individuals includes:

  • ABST classroom training (40 hours) + government exam (through Tip of Spear)

  • Tactical Communications (through Tip of Spear)

  • Safety training: ProServe, WHMIS, CSTS20, First Aid & Mental Health First Aid (through A4HC)

  • Workplace Culture & Intercultural Skills Training (through A4HC)

  • Targeted Essential Skills training – specifics determined by consultation with employers (through A4HC)

Want to become an employer partner?

There are still potential partnership openings for companies that hire security staff. If you or your company are interested in being a part of this program, please contact Andrea Streisel at Action for Healthy Communities at: andrea.streisel@a4hc.ca.
