About IKMF Krav Maga

IKMF Krav Maga is a globally-recognized defensive tactics and combatives system,

and is the most practical and effective system used by

civilians, enforcement and military in the world.

This program develops proven personal protection, numerous life skills such as confidence and self-awareness, and physical fitness.  It is open to the public, ages 13 (parental consent required) and up.

What it Involves

Krav Maga (Contact Combat) is a defensive tactics system, and is aimed at teaching practical and realistic self-defense, rather than it being a method for sparring against a person with the same background, as is the case with many martial arts systems. Krav Maga is a tool for survival, not just a means for technically drilling different exercises. We therefore focus on the nature of confrontations in the real world, the conditions in which they occur, and the various methods for preventing and dealing with such situations.

How you Progress

The IKMF has built levels of accomplishment into the system. This accomplishment is shown through patches worn on the students pants. (See pictures below).

The grading begins at Practitioner Levels (Yellow) 1 through 5. These are the beginner levels of IKMF Krav Maga. As the student progresses, their skills levels develop moving into the Graduate Levels (Blue) 1 through 5. Graduate levels show greater understanding and competence of all technique, also opening up different opportunities for training in the IKMF. Expert levels (Gold) 1 through 5, show the greatest understanding, application and continued development of skill.

The Practitioner Levels take approximately 26 classes per level to feel comfortable to test in. As you get into higher levels, more time is required to perfect all technique taught.

History and The IKMF

Imrich (Imi) Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld) founder of Krav Maga, was born in Budapest in 1910. With his fathers encouragement, Imi became active in a wide range of sports. This exposed him to not only different fighting disciplines, but fitness and sports.

In the mid 30's Europe was changing for the worst. Facism and and Anti-Semitic groups targeted the Jewish community. Having been involved in many conflicts with these groups, he was forced to leave. Imi joined the Czechoslovakian army for 2 years. He arrived in Israel in 1944 and began training fighters in his area of expertise. Imi was the Chief Instructor for Physical Fitness and Krav Maga at the IDF School of Combat fitness. He served in the IDF for 20 years.

Imi founded the IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation). http://kravmaga-ikmf.com

IKMF Instructors for this program work closely with the Global Instruction Team (GIT) and Israel HQ to ensure that technique is current, correct and effective. They have been screened, taught, thoroughly tested. We are continually evaluated to ensure you have a program that is consistent, cohesive and modern.

Since 1996, the IKMF has expanded and is now the largest and most appreciated Krav Maga institution world wide.

Why we are Passionate about IKMF Krav Maga

I have asked people why they do their martial art. Responses have been from getting control of my life, to learning a defense because they experienced a particularly traumatic event in their life. Others do it for the sport with aspirations of competion. Some people do martial arts to learn how to hurt someone (ego and emotion being the downfall of most). Some people do it for the fitness. Some people do it for the feeling of belonging. Everyone has a different reason.

I practice Krav Maga so I can drink coffee.

Sound strange? Let me explain...

My entire life has been using violence in some form as a tool. I would attend different martial arts looking for one that fit the best. This was difficult as many did not fit the practical use category. Also, it had to work in the field. It had to be modern. It had to be easy, because it was not going to be used in a tournament, it was part of my professional options to protect my life.

Krav Maga gives people a sense of calm. It is effective, easy to learn and does not take night after night in a dojo to perfect. Nothing is perfect in real life. The principles taught in Krav Maga allow you to adapt technique to any situation. It is not a sport. It is a form that was built on a battlefield and can do serious injury. It also has "Soft Solutions" when required to fit the situation.

The confidence learned from Krav Maga allows you to enjoy your life. Enjoy your family and vacations. It allows you to recognize risk and have remedies (a plan) IF things go wrong. It can never be taken away from you. Like any learned skill it goes everywhere with you. A very valuable skill in this day and age.

So, now you know my secret. Enjoy your life, get in excellent shape, meet new friends, learn Krav Maga....and enjoy your coffee.
